If you are a smoker, try to quit smoking. The chemicals found in tobacco relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter muscle that forms cardia, located between the stomach and esophagus, allowing stomach acid to make his way in the stomach more quickly.
If you are overweight, the pressure on the stomach is higher, thus making it easier to get stomach acid into the esophagus, so losing weight can help digestive problems.
Alcohol is another factor that worsens the symptoms of indigestion so it is recommended lowering alcohol consumption.
Body position plays an important role in digestion. A hunched position, leaning forward in chair, wearing tight belts, and lying down immediately after eating put much greater pressure on the stomach, which can cause indigestion. If indigestion symptoms occur at night, try to avoid drinking liquids and foods with approx 3 hours before bedtime. Use several pillows to prop your head and shoulders, preventing stomach acid to rise into the esophagus.
